A few days ago, I had the opportunity to speak with a marketer about their social media usage/needs for their small business. They replied “Oh, We don’t need that!”
Oh really? Is it that you don’t need to get the message out there and engage and connect with people? Is it that you don’t want these people to form an emotional attachment to your products, employees and endear themselves to your business; and only purchase your product because “they wouldn’t think of going anyplace else”? Or is it that you are afraid to say “I don’t understand exactly what you are saying. Could you explain yourself and how it can benefit me”?
Many small businesses don’t use social media. The reasons can vary from “I don’t understand it” to “I don’t have it in my budget”. Don’t just rely on traditional media to entice emotional attachments. I’ve got good news!
Social Media is easy to grasp and it doesn’t have to cost a cent to get started! That’s right, once you have an initial understanding you can begin engaging and connecting. It only takes time and a nurturing mindset for your business.
Zingerman’s is gettin’ it right. Of course they started gettin’ it right from the beginning, with a quality product and service that was second to none. It’s what they have done since, that has catapulted them ahead of the rest. Zingerman’s has totally integrated social media into their business. Using Twitter, Facebook and mobile tools to create a living digital connection; Zingerman’s is also getting the hard part right…RESPONSE. Not afraid of negative sentiment, they encourage people to share their experience. In a recent Facebook post a customer was disappointed with her experience. Zingerman’s was able to respond immediately and apologize to that customer and make the proper amends; hopefully turning a customer that was unlikely to return into someone who will give them a second chance and share “it”!
Oh, yeah…all those customers Zingerman’s is winning over!
